Král | Aims of the project: A priority of the EURATOM programme are activities that will ensure support for the implementation of the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) project and thus move nuclear research and development closer to the demonstration of fusion energy production. The main objective is to demonstrate the usability of the energy of fusion as an energy source by using existing and future fusion research facilities and laying the foundations for future fusion power plants. Therefore, the programme also supports the development of materials, technologies and conceptual design of a Demonstration Fusion Reactor (DEMO). The second part of the EURATOM programme focuses on fission R&D priorities.
The aim of this project is thus to implement the activities described in the updated EUROfusion Research Roadmap during the Horizon Europe programme framework through a joint programme with the following priorities:
1. to build and commission ITER;
2. to ensure the success of the future operation of ITER through preparation and experimentation on current facilities;
3. to develop the conceptual design of the DEMO fusion power plant;
4. to complete the design and implementation of the fusion neutron source (IFMIF-DONES);
5. develop the stellarator as an alternative or backup approach to fusion power plants;
6. prepare a generation of scientists, engineers and operators for ITER and DEMO;
7. to promote innovation and competitiveness of European industry in fusion technology and beyond. | |
