Mobility project between the Czech and Chinese Academies of Sciences on plasma-material interactions in fusion devices
|
Project ID: | CAS-17-14 | Provider: | Czech Academy of Sciences | Period: | Jan 01, 2017 - Dec 31, 2019 | Principal Investigator: | Renaud Dejarnac, Dr. | Co-investigators | M. Dimitrova, J. Matějíček, M. Komm, M. Vilémová, P. Vondráček, A. Podolník, D. Naydenkova, D. Šesták | Aims of the project: Plasma-material interaction (PMI) is one of the critical issues for ITER, an International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor for fusion energy. To sustain enormous high heat flux in ITER, the plasma-facing components (PFCs) are made of tungsten (W) and are castellated to withstand thermo-mechanical stresses. The erosion of W can limit the PFCs lifetime. Moreover, the presence of leading edges as a result of assembly tolerances between adjacent blocks can lead to melting. Both issues can be assessed numerically and experimentally in the COMPASS and EAST tokamaks in Czech and Chinese Academies of Sciences. The resources from both institutes will result in mutually complementary advantages with an internationally recognized expertise: platform for PMI experiments, sample analysis, particle-in-cell simulations for plasma-surface interface, simulation of the material erosion/redeposition with the ERO code and various edge diagnostics. Experiments in both machines coupled with combined simulations will help to understand the underlying physics and make better prediction for ITER. | |
