Aims of the project: Transport barrier formed in the edge region of tokamak plasma after the transition to the high confinement mode is believed to play a crucial role in plasma performance. Until now it is not fully understood what is the physics behind the change in confinement - a key parameter on the way towards burning plasma. Fundamental research on transport barrier is thus of a big importance in the fusion research and represents a highly ITER relevant topic. Our team is working on this topic together with a leading fusion laboratories (JET and MAST tokamaks, CCFE, UK) since 2010. COMPASS represents one of tokamaks with ITER-like plasma. Being equipped with a comprehensive set of diagnostics of high spatial and temporal resolution and focused on pedestal, it is capable to significantly contribute into the international multi-machine database in an unexplored region of dimensionless parameters. In this project we will perform pedestal measurements, compare data with theoretical models and incorporate them into the multi-machine scaling. We will perform study of ELMs instabilities.
