Project ID: | GAP205/11/2470 | Provider: | Czech Science Foundation | Period: | Jan 01, 2011 - Dec 31, 2013 | Principal Investigator: | Ing. Martin Hron, PhD. | Co-investigators | , , , , , , , | Aims of the project: This project addresses control of the size and frequency of the ELM-type instabilities using an externally imposed fast movement of the plasma column on the COMPASS tokamak. For this purpose, first, a modelling of the COMPASS plasma equilibrium will be performed using a non-linear finite element meshing code MAXFEA. Next, validation of the model in the ohmic regime and in the H-mode will be done in series of testing experiments and the reaction of the plasma
column on a fast externally induced position change will be studied.
Finally, experiments on the ELM control itself will be prepared and performed in the ohmic H-mode and in the H-mode induced by the NBI heating on the COMPASS tokamak. The efficiency of the ELM control using the vertical position kicks method for the COMPASS plasma will be checked and compared with other tokamak devices with ITER-like cross-section of the plasma column (namely JET and ASDEX-U). | |
