Aims of the project: Many problems in plasma physics can be adequately treated by fluid codes. In recent years, a significant progress has been made in discrete kinetic modelling of compressible flows by means of thermo - lattice Boltzmann method (TLBE). In particular, TLBE codes have been extended to handle variable Prandtl number, multi-species flows, with ionisation and recombination, modelling etc. The major shortcomings of the existing TLBE models are a low Mach number limit and a narrow range of temperatures required for numerical stability. The aim of this project is to remove both these limitations, and to apply the TLBE method to modelling of the gas-blanket divertor and scrape-of layer (SOL) tokamak plasma.
