Aims of the project: Knowledge of plasma position and shape is the key information for a safe and reliable operation of every tokamak device. Measurement of these quantities is equivalent to measurement of magnetic field with a good temporal and spatial resolution in the vicinity of the plasma column. The system of magnetic coils is typicaly used for this purpose. However, this approach provides only information on the magnetic field changes - amplitude must be determined by integration of the measured signals. Applicability of this method decreases with increasing pulse length due to low sensitivity and drifts of integrators. Moreover, this method is not usable for a fusion power plant operating in stationary regime. Possible solution is the use of Hall detectors. The development and tests of diagnostics based on Hall sensors in existing fusion devices is the subject of the project. The results obtained will lead to a design study of the prototype magnetic probe head for future themonuclear reactor ITER.
Progress/Results: Applicability of Hall sensors for magnetic measurements on present fusion devices was demonstrated via several complex experiments. Progress was achieved also in development of these sensors for harsh environment of future fusion reactor ITER.
