Radiation of pulse high-current discharges stabilised by proximity wall

Aims of the project: The primary aim of this project is to understand and (into some extend even) "control" excitation/recombination and radiation processes of multiply charged ions in pulse high-current discharges. The range of interest falls into soft X-ray (from ten to fifty nanometers) region. First from comparison of our old CAPEX device (that has already proved strong amplification of neon-like Ar line 46.9 nm) and our new CAPEX-U experiment (that is being put into operation in these days), as well as from scarce data from other laboratories, we shall try to find some general rules for optimisation of this soft X-ray laser pumped according to excitation pumping scheme. An alternative metal-vapour plasma-channel, created e.g. by exploding wire in liquid, enable usto investigate processes leading to population inversion and lasing at shorter wavelength (between 10 and 20 nm). Our next interest will be focused on a discharge burning in a small diameter (1 mm or less) dielectric tube filled with nitrogen or oxygen. |
Progress/Results: Comparison of Ar8+ lasers (l = 46,88 nm) based on a pulse high-current capillary discharge driven either by CAPEX or by newly built CAPEX-U (CAPillary EXperiment Upgrade) helped us to specify a set of necessary conditions for amplification on this wavele |
