Aims of the project: Protective coatings prepared by plasma spraying find broad applications, including thermal and corrosion protection, wear resistance, fatigue, etc. Their complex lamellar structure is responsible for their unique properties different from bulk materials:lower mechanical and thermal properties, anisotropy, presence of residual stresses, non-linear mechanical behavior. Various models exist, describing these phenomena in relation to the structural imperfections, however, the experimental verification has been rather limited. Especially there is a lack of connection to the real microstructure and its characteristics. The goal of this project is to elucidate the behavior of plasma sprayed materials under mechanical loading in connection to their structure, crack density, mechanical properties and stresses. We will strive to obtain as complex description of the occurring phenomena as possible. The obtained experimental results will be compared with existing models of mechanical behavior of sprayed materials
