Aims of the project: The currently developed fission and fusion reactors face the problems of complex multi-material components that are often next-to-impossible to produce using conventional technologies. Here, the innovative cold spray technology can represent a solution as it allows combining multiple metal materials for the preparation of such components. The goal of our project is to demonstrate the applicability of cold spray technology for the nuclear power industry. This will be done using two demonstrators of critical components of the Compass-U fusion reactor. The first project phase will focus on the additive manufacturing of Inconel 625 and high-strength copper alloy materials by cold spray. In the second phase, functional samples will be tested under fusion-relevant conditions.
