Aims of the project: Radio frequency (RF) plasma spraying of self-passivating alloys will be assessed. Mechanically alloyed powders have to be uses for the process. If needed, FZJ will provide mechanically alloyed powders. The powders will be sprayed on a substrate. Due to the high temperatures in the process, graphite is used as substrate. It is planned to replace graphite by Eurofer. In this case, EUROFER has to be actively cooled. In the first stage a process optimization will be performed. Compositions of W-Cr, W-Cr-Y and W-Cr-Zr will be sprayed and phase composition, chemical homogeneity and structure of the coatings will be characterized. Oxidation tests are foreseen.
