Reforming of gas and liquid hydrocarbons and organics in steam and CO2 thermal plasma jets

Aims of the project: Steam and dry (CO2) reforming of methane, ethanol, methanol, pyrolysis oil, and other organics in thermal plasma generated in the world unique water stabilized plasma torch will be studied both theoretically and experimentally. The plasma power will be almost two orders higher compared with published experiments on plasma reforming. The second innovation of this project follows from the fact that reaction gases (steam and CO2) will be supplied into reaction volume in the state of plasma, i.e. dissociated, ionized and with presence of radicals. Lower energy consumption and higher conversion rate in these conditions are supposed. The research includes investigation of interaction of plasma jet with reactants in conditions of changes of state and chemical composition, study of process rate and kinetics, and determination of effect of conditions on properties of process products. The theoretical modeling involve computations of composition and properties of reaction products, fluid flow modeling of mixing of plasma with reactants and modeling of kinetics of the processes.
