Aims of the project: The present project will investigate the properties and processes in electric arcs stabilized by liquid (water) vortex (Gerdien arc) and in new hybrid type of arc discharge which combines principles of liquid and gas arc stabilization. The research will be carried out mainly on theoretical basis and special emphasis will be put on radiative transport within the arc column. It was confirmed both experimentally and theoretically that radiation represents the major radial energy losses from the liquid-stabilized arc. Part of the radiation is reabsorbed in colder arc regions, which heats back plasma and causes higher pressures in the discharge leading to higher outflow velocities. Reabsorption of radiation seems to be the key phenomenon influencing parameters of liquid plasma torch. The other part of the project will be devoted to investigation of effects of nonequilibrium to the liquid-stabilized arc performance. It was proved that a significant under population of atomic and ionic |
